Explicación

Usamos there is y there are para decir «hay». La forma depende de lo que viene después, no de quién habla.

Singular, plural e incontables

Tipo de nombre Forma Ejemplo
Singular contable there is + a/an There is a desk.
Plural contable there are + número / some There are some desks.
Incontable there is + some There is some rice.

There’s es la contracción de there is: There’s a lamp by the bed. Para practicar el plural, usa there are.

A/an y some

Usamos a o an con un nombre contable singular. Elegimos según el sonido siguiente: a chair, an apple, a university, an hour.

Some indica una cantidad sin decir el número exacto. Lo usamos con plurales e incontables en afirmativa.

  • There are some books on the floor.
  • There is some juice in the glass.

Negativas y preguntas con any

Afirmativa Negativa Pregunta
There is a garden. There isn’t a garden. Is there a garden?
There are some eggs. There aren’t any eggs. Are there any eggs?
There is some tea. There isn’t any tea. Is there any tea?

Para responder: Yes, there is. / No, there isn’t. Con plural: Yes, there are. / No, there aren’t.

En preguntas generales usamos any. También puedes ver some cuando se ofrece o se pide algo esperando una respuesta positiva: Can I have some water?

Truco: «hay» no se traduce con have. Di There are two parks, no Have two parks.
