A Different Day on Fern Island
Last Friday, my cousin Ben and I took the morning ferry to Fern Island. We wanted to walk to the old lighthouse and have lunch on the beach. The weather app showed sunshine, so we left our raincoats at the guesthouse.
Half an hour after we arrived, it started raining heavily. We ran into a small café near the harbour. The owner, Nella, gave us a map and suggested the island's toy museum. I wasn't excited about looking at old toys, but Ben wanted to go.
The museum was in a former school. Upstairs, we found a room where visitors could build wooden boats. A volunteer showed us what to do, and we spent nearly two hours there. My boat looked terrible, but it floated!
Later, the rain stopped. We bought cheese sandwiches and ate them by the harbour. There wasn't enough time to visit the lighthouse before the last ferry, so we saved that walk for another trip.
The day wasn't what we planned, but it was fun. Next time, I'll pack a raincoat and leave some space in my plans for surprises.
